Jonathan enjoys a good walk in his local area but has never walked a long distance before. Recently he read Ben Fogle’s ‘The Accidental Adventurer’ he found the section about Bens time with Facing Africa-Noma very moving, he then decided to set himself a challenge of a 182 mile coast to coast walk for Facing Africa-Noma.
Jonathan 63, will be taking on this massive challenge in June 2020 with his brother-in-law Chris. The walk starts in northern England going from St Bees on the west coast to Robin Hoods Bay on the East. It goes through three national parks: Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, and the North York Moors, with mountains to climb, moors to cross and valleys to navigate.
It’s estimated that the total ascent is 28,480 ft. making it just short of climbing Everest from sea level. He’s predicted the walk will take a total of 13 days, covering up to 20 miles each day. In his spare time Jonathan enjoys skiing, rugby, reading and crosswords.
Everyone at Facing Africa-Noma wishes Jonathan the best of luck with his amazing challenge. Please go and support Jonathan! Click the link to go to his Just Giving – https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jonathan-large-c2c
